This pair of Italian Art Deco ceramic figures from the 1930s, made by Zen for Nove Vicenza, captures a significant historical period through the lens of art and craftsmanship, representing youth, nationalism and the distinctive style of the era. The Balilla figure represents a young Italian, probably part of the Balilla, the youth organisation founded during the fascist period in Italy.
