Neoclassical sculpture of horse in plaster, 50s

Amazing plaster sculpture, depicting the equestrian head of Selene's chariot. Italy 1950. The sculpture is part of the east pediment of the Parthenon. The horse's head protruding outside the frame of the tympanum evokes the sinking of Selene's chariot into the night abyss. This is because Selena was the goddess of the moon, and accompanied humanity from the light of day to the darkness of darkness. Slight wear of time.
