Japanese 'Hina Ningyo' dolls - Emperor and Empress, rare, late 19th century early 20th century. Hinamatsuri (雛祭り(Hina-matsuri), also known as 'Doll Festival' or 'Girl's Day', is a Japanese holiday that falls on 3 March, the third day of the third month. On this occasion, platforms are prepared with a red carpet (緋毛氈 hi-mōsen), on which a set of Japanese ornamental dolls (雛人形 hina-ningyō) depicting the emperor, empress and other court figures are displayed.
