Callimaco floor lamp by Ettore Sottsass for Artemide, 1980s

Created in the early 1980s by the great designer Ettore Sottsass, Callimaco is an object of ambiguous and iconic design, a luminous sculpture inspired by the famous 5th century Greek artist Callimachus of Athens. The Callimaco floor lamp blends a functional soul with a playful essence through a skilful combination of metallic colours. Conical base in dark grey painted steel, cylindrical yellow stem and lamp holder like the base but in red painted metal. On the stem are the dimmer and the chrome-plated steel handle. Small signs of wear: the dimmer on the stem to adjust the light intensity is not working.
