Butterfly floor lamp by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Flos, 1980s. Black enamelled aluminum stem surmounted by a dimmable halogen lamp; a pair of etched glass enclose and shield the light bulb. Magic and mystery are felt in this lamp thanks to the two large folding fabric fans, 68 cm wide, which can be moved as in a traditional dance show by a geisha or a maiko to screen or increase the intensity of the light. The reference to Japan is found not only in the fan shape of the speakers but also in the fabric in which they are made, which is reminiscent of rice paper. The lamp is working and in excellent vintage condition. Currently out of production.
