Pair of calcanite ores, 1990s

Two large chalcantite minerals. Pair of beautiful mineral crystals. Calcantite is a mineral composed of hydrated copper sulphate. It occurs in prismatic crystals or stalactites, ranging in colour from turquoise blue to deep blue to green with a transparent opacity. It is a hydrophobic mineral and in contact with air it oxidises and becomes covered with a light white/green patina. These two specimens are a single block and have large crystals in various shades of blue. Rare in size, weighing about 10 kg each, they are an example of natural sculpture. Their extraordinary beauty makes them perfect for placing as table centrepieces or on the sides of dressers. Their natural charm means that they can fit into any antique or modern context. First specimen: height 26 cm; diameter 22 cm. Second specimen: height 22 cm; diameter 28 cm.
