Lesbo table lamp in blown glass by Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide, 1970s

The Lesbo lamp is a symbol of the 'made in Italy' design of the 1970s. It was designed in 1967 by the great architect and industrial designer Angelo Mangiarotti. Its round shape is associated with a noble material worked with great craftsmanship. Lesbo consists of a polished metal base and a diffuser made of a single hand-blown Murano glass element. The diffuser has beautiful white/transparent lampshades obtained through the excellent know-how of the master glassmaker. This lamp is unique, beyond the shades of white that vary from one element to the next. The main characteristics of Italian architect Angelo Mangiarotti's work are found in Lesbo: the prevalence of glass and the sculptural shape of a mushroom. The Lesbo lamp emits diffuse light.
